e2v to show case space imaging technology at the Make it in Great Britain exhibition at The Science Museum
Beating competition from hundreds of UK companies, e2v, the technology solutions provider, has been selected to be one of an elite group of companies to represent manufacturing excellence at the Make it in Great Britain exhibition, to be held at the Science Museum in London during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Launched in November 2011 by Business Secretary Dr Vince Cable and Business Minister Mark Prisk, Make it in Great Britain is a campaign aiming to raise awareness of the importance of modern UK manufacturing to the economy and to highlight the successes, innovation and levels of expertise that exist within the country at a time when all the world will have its eyes on the UK during London 2012.
The campaign culminates in a free exhibition to be held at the Science Museum in South Kensington, London, during the Olympic and Paralympic Games (24th July – 9th September). e2v will be one of forty companies showcasing the best that British manufacturing has to offer, aiming to inspire young people to consider a career in manufacturing and dispel the myth that Britain ‘doesn’t make anything anymore’.
e2v will be showcasing its expertise on space imaging, with an interactive room showing images of Earth, the Milky Way and beyond into the stars, all taken with e2v’s world leading space imaging devices.
Business Minister Mark Prisk said, “Manufacturing accounts for 8 per cent of total UK employment and well over half of export goods, yet current perceptions of the industry are out of date and do not reflect that reality. We have selected a really exciting mix of exhibits, andI hope that as many people as possible visit the exhibition and see all of the great examples of British design and manufacturing – it will be spectacular.”
Ian Blatchford, Director of the Science Museum commented, “We’re incredibly excited to be hosting the Make it in Great Britain exhibition this summer. The Science Museum and its world leading collections demonstrate some of the greatest engineering achievements of the last 200 years. We hope that as many people as possible visit the exhibition, and see at first-hand how innovation in British manufacturing is still thriving today.”
