e2v simplifies serial data transmission with new ESIstream© protocol
e2v the high-reliability semiconductor solution provider, today announce their proposal for a new novel open serialization protocol. The Efficient Serial Interface (ESIstream©)combines both very high data rate efficiency and simplified hardware implementation for serial data transmission.
Data rate efficiency is critical to reduce the number of data transmission lanes. e2v’s new ESIstream© has only 12.5% of overhead data, compared with other forms of serialization (such as the JESD204b) which have up to 30% overhead data.
General purpose standards are becoming increasingly complex, due to their broad range of applications. This results in designers having to make significant effort to understand the complexity of the protocol and identify the best form of implementation for their application. The ESIstream© is kept simple by reducing the number of logic gates by at least half that used in other protocols. This can reduce design time and time to market.

This protocol is particularly efficient when designing for the highest data rate systems such as high resolution image sensors and microwave capable data converters.
