e2v’s Trevor Cross awarded Professorship at University of Birmingham

Trevor Cross, Group Chief Technology Officer at e2v, has been awarded the honorary title of Professor from the University of Birmingham’s College of Engineering and Physical Sciences for his role in Quantum Technology.

Together, e2v and the University have built a successful academic and industrial consortium which has secured funding for the lead role in the new £80 million Quantum Technology Sensing and Metrology hub. The successful partnership has focused on bringing practical, real life application to the world-class research in Ultra-Cold Atom Sensors and Metrology led by the University’s Professor of Cold Atom Physics, Kai Bongs. e2v is already playing a major role in two pioneering projects;

• To produce a gravity imaging camera prototype for the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory
• Freeze-Ray, a next generation laser-cooled cold atom trap funded by Innovate UK

Professor Andy Schofield, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Birmingham, said, “We’re extremely pleased that Trevor has been appointed to an honorary professorship at the University of Birmingham. It recognises his integral involvement and leadership in Quantum Technology and more widely in shaping policy within the Institute of Physics. I have personally witnessed his effectiveness in presenting both the science and the business case for innovation to the Local Enterprise Partnership, to Government ministers and the wider community. It is an appointment that also supports the widening of our engagement with e2v and I believe that both organisations will benefit from this.”
