Improved processing performance and memory size with e2v’s new Qorivva microcontroller
e2v, the leading high-reliability semiconductor solutions provider, working in collaboration with Freescale, today announces the release of its PC5566; a new high reliability Qorivva microcontroller for harsh environment embedded systems.
Microcontrollers from the Qorivva family are extensively used in commercial avionics and defence electronics systems requiring low-power embedded computing. With the release of the PC5566, e2v offers an ideal upgrade path for customers using legacy MPC555 and MPC5554 microcontrollers in aerospace and defence applications.
Based on a Power Architecture e200z6 core with an operating frequency up to 144MHz the PC5566 is pin-to-pin and software compatible with the MPC5554 and offers improved processing performance and increased on-chip memory size. It demonstrates powerful signal processing abilities, embedding features such as a Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD) engine and floating point capabilities. This microcontroller also comes with 3MB of on-chip flash memory and 128KB of SRAM, both protected by Error Correction Code (ECC). Integrated analogue features such as a 40 channel dual 12bit ADC allow the PC5566 to directly convert analogue signals, which further reduces the need for external components and makes the overall board less complex.
e2v also ensures long term continuity of supply with its Semiconductor Lifecycle Management (SLiM™) program, to meet with aerospace and defence longevity requirements for avionics including flight control, aircraft management and FADEC systems for civil or military platforms.
“PC5566 perfectly complements our portfolio of Qorivva microcontrollers available for aerospace and defence applications, which offers an additional embedded solution to customers designing critical systems where failure is not an option.” said Richard Gibbs, President of e2v’s High-reliability Semiconductor Solutions Division. “Avionics and defence customers can now rely on e2v’s PC5566 and PC5674F for their embedded systems, benefiting from e2v’s expertise in serving high reliability applications with the latest available technologies.”
PC5566 is now available from e2v with operation over the full military temperature range, from low temperatures of -55°C allowing cold-start for avionics systems, up to +125°C ambient environments for engine control systems.
We are exhibiting at Electronica in Munich from 11-14 November. Come see us in Hall A5 stand 280 or book in a meeting with the team.
